A Wake-Up Call – To Awaken To The Holy Spirit
Yon Teruah means = The Day of the Awakening Blast

Matthew Henry Commentary (Revised) says,

“The institution of the feast of trumpets, on the first day of the seventh month, #Le 23:24-25. That which was now the seventh month had been reckoned the first month, and the year of jubilee was still to begin with this month (#Le 25:8), so that this was their new year’s day. It was to be as their other yearly Sabbaths, a day of holy rest—You shall do no servile work therein; and a day of holy workYou shall offer an offering to the Lord; concerning these particular directions were afterwards given, #Nu 29:1. That which is here made peculiar to this festival is that it was a memorial of blowing of trumpets. They blew the trumpet every new moon (#Ps 81:3), but in the new moon of the seventh month it was to be done with more than ordinary solemnity; for they began to blow at sunrise and continued till sun-set. Now,

For the Jewish feasts, it seems to be a 1) Calling together for feasts, 2) Date setting, 3) Sabbath starts and ends, 4) A reminder to repent and 5) A wake-up call that God is above all.  Different trumpet blast for each purpose.
For us, Christians it would be more 1, 4 and 5.  This should be done at ALL FEASTS!

1. This is said to be a memorial, perhaps of the sound of the trumpet upon Mount Sinai when the law was given, which must never be forgotten. Some think that it was a memorial of the creation of the world, which is supposed to have been in autumn; for which reason this was, till now, the first month. The mighty word by which God made the world is called the voice of his thunder (#Ps 104:7); fitly therefore was it commemorated by blowing of trumpets, or a memorial of shouting, as the Chaldee renders it; for, when the foundations of the earth were fastened, all the sons of God shouted for joy, #Job 38:6-7.

2. The Jewish writers suppose it to have a spiritual signification. Now at the beginning of the year they were called by this sound of trumpet to shake off their spiritual drowsiness, to search and try their ways, and to amend them. And they say,
The Spiritual Signification would be the same for us, only we have the WORD.  In their day the majority could not read and they refused to change their calendar from what God said, so trumpets were blown to signal them what they were to do.  Much like a war, trumpets were used before phones to tell men to attack or retreat.

"The devout Jews exercised themselves more in good works between the feast of trumpets and the day of expiation than at any other time of the year."
For the Jew it was for salvation.  For us, we need to awaken to more works to fulfill what we've been called to do.  Or to listen more to the Holy Spirit, so He can work through us more.

Numbers 10:1-9  Priests blow trumpets for gathering and war.
10:10  "Also in the day of your gladness and in your appointed feasts, and on the first days of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; and they shall be as a reminder of you before your God. I am the LORD your God."
Basically Vs 10 says, over offerings of FEASTS! And 1st day of month.
Gill’s Ref says, “Day of Gladness is any time of rejoicing on account of any extraordinary deliverance and salvation:”
Numbers 10:1-10
What were the reasons for blowing the trumpets?  To Guide, declare War, 1st Day of Month, Reminder God Rules
Who is to blow the trumpets in OT?   Priests
In NT?   US – We’re the Priests of Jesus
Should we do this in each feast we celebrate today? Why?   We can, it’s optional

Other Reasons For Blowing A Trumpet:
1 Chronicles 15:28  “Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the horn, with trumpets, with loud-sounding cymbals, with harps and lyres.
Why did David do this?   To rejoice in the return of what gave them, the ark and their covenant.
2 Chronicles 5:13  “in unison when the trumpeters and the singers were to make themselves heard with one voice to praise and to glorify the LORD, and when they lifted up their voice accompanied by trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and when they praised the LORD saying, "He indeed is good for His lovingkindness is everlasting," then the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud,”
How important is One Voice?   It’s the unity, agreement with the Lord, when we speak
What were they doing with the instruments?   Praising, Glorifying God and Rejoicing
What did they say and what happened when they did?   The Lord showed-up in a cloud
Why we do this today?   Holy Spirit to refill us  Heb 13:15, Ps 147:1
1 Corinthians 15:51-52  “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”
What time frame is Paul talking?   Rapture.
What’s going to happen?   We go to the Wedding Feast.

Offerings & Sacrifices
Hebrews 10:1-14
Do we need to do the Offerings & Sacrifices like the OT?   NO, but be obedient to we show respect for His Word.
What replaced the OT way in the NT?   Life, Death and Resurrection of Christ. – Total Forgiveness
What do we need to do today instead?   Bless the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Rejoice in all they do for us.  Our job is to be a Living Sacrifice Acts 16:31.
Mark 12:32-34  “The scribe said to Him, "Right, Teacher; You have truly stated that HE IS ONE, AND THERE IS NO ONE ELSE BESIDES HIM; AND TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL THE HEART AND WITH ALL THE UNDERSTANDING AND WITH ALL THE STRENGTH, AND TO LOVE ONE’S NEIGHBOR AS HIMSELF, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."  When Jesus saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." After that, no one would venture to ask Him any more questions.”
The scribe (one who could read and write the Word), agreed with Jesus.  That it was more important to ACT according to the purpose of the Word, then to be locked in to various repetitive laws that no one could follow.  Jesus seemed to be astonished by those (soldier, woman w/issue of blood, and this scribe) who truly understood the purpose and the way to walk it in the natural, then He was with ritual practices.
What is a scribe?   One in OT, who could read and write.
What did the scribe say that agreed with Jesus?   Acting on the second command is better than ALL burnt offerings and sacrifices
Why did Jesus say “you are not far from the kingdom of God”?   Because the scribe new the Word, he just needed to act on it.
1 Corinthians 15:52  “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”
         FYI –
Ø     Did you know “the last trumpet” is only listed in this one place in the Bible?
Ø     Did you know there are 100 different blasts?  That the Jews refer to the 100th blast as the last trumpet?

Ø     Did you know that the only time all the trumpets are blown this way is during the Feats of Trumpets?  Something to think about.
HOW TO CELEBRATE THIS FEAST
Feast of Trumpets – Jewish New Year (Yom Teruah) Day of the Awakening blast
Celebrate that we will have a new year AWAKENED with God’s peace, joy, health and provision in God’s presence and a renewal in Him.

Whether a gathering or on your own, this should be a “Day to Celebrate and speak to the Lord about the coming New Year.”  If you can, listen to the shofar and remember out of the 100 trumpet blasts sounded, the 100th is called the “Last Trumpet” in scripture.

ü    Praise the Lord for awakening you this year in the abundance of His blessings.
ü    Ask God to awaken your spirit to seek and obey Him more and change what is not pleasing to Him.
ü    Ask God to prepare you for what’s coming as He prepared Solomon, Daniel and Paul.
ü    Ask God to experience a fresh release of your life in Christ and the blessings of our Lord.
ü    Spend time in His Word, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth you need to hear.
ü    ALLWAYS take the time to LISTEN (wait on Him) to what the Holy Spirit has to say and the understanding will increase your harvest.
ü    CELEBRATE with a meal that’s supplied from the King of Kings and rejoice that the Lord is blessing you with these provisions and many, many more spiritually, mentally and physically this coming year.

ENJOY THIS SPECIAL DAY WITH THE LORD

Blessings - Sandy
